5 Full-time 3 days ago Full Job Description JOB Under general supervision, is responsible for facilitating and expediting Child Protective Services abuse and neglect cases within the parameters of guidelines set out in the Texas Family Code, the District Attorney's Office and the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services; performs complex legal assistant work, including researching, analyzing, investigating and drafting legal documents under the supervision of Assistant District Attorneys.
This position is not covered under Civil Service EXAMPLE OF DUTIES Performs legal work related to the prosecution of child abuse casesPrepares, develops, reviews and edits petitions, motions, orders, service requests, subpoenas, inquiries, discovery and files documents with the District Clerk's Office as neededCirculates draft orders in Adobe Sign and processes for filingReviews cases and navigates OdysseyHandles and prepares correspondence and memorandaSchedules, attends and prepares cases and witnesses for hearings, trials, staffing's, interviews and docket callsCoordinates, develops and updates responses to discovery requestsVerifies service of processInforms departmental personnel of case status, decisions and schedulingInteracts with Assistant District Attorneys, Court Staff, District Judges, ad items, CPS caseworkers and departmental administratorsPerforms related duties as required MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Graduation from an accredited college or university with an Associate's Degree in Legal Assistance, and two (2) years legal experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experienceKnowledge of legal terminology involved in civil and criminal procedures; knowledge of civil and criminal justice processSkill in completing legal researchAbility to organize legal information; ability to effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing; ability to effectively communicate with diverse groups of individuals utilizing tact and diplomacy; ability to perform basic mathematical calculations; ability to operate personal computer, typewriter and basic office equipment; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, County employees, judges, law enforcement officers, attorneys and the general publicMust secure and maintain a pre-employment physicalMay be required to work more than 40 hours during the workweekWorking Environment and Physical Demands:
